
BACKGROUND
Lollapalooza is an annual music festival held yearly in Chicago, Illinois beginning in 1991 (along with hosting locations in other countries). Featuring genres from a wide range of acts from heavy metal to dance music, it is an iconic event for not just musicians but also visual artists and nonprofit organizations. ntries.
DESIGN STRATEGY
Taking some, but not too much, inspiration from the original design. I went for curvy, bubbly typography for the display type, which illustrates the free-spirit of the festival. This pairs well with all caps sans serif, which is easy to read and successfully portrays the wide range of acts which perform at the festival each day. Music festivals are typically type-heavy so I knew this was very important. The smooth blue triangles act to draw the eye across and down the poster. I also was sure to include some of the headliners, including Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar, along with the festival sponsors, and the Chicago skyline as secondary elements.
