BACKGROUND
Loathe are an English heavy metal band formed
in 2014. Loathe is a modern metalcore and progressive metal act,
often balancing guttaral vocals and punishing guitar riffs with more
atmospheric melodies and crooning hooks. Their 2020 album, I Let It
In And Took Everything, echoes this as it utilizes sounds by everything
from doom-inducing black metal to galactical synths.

DESIGN STRATEGY
The original album cover is somewhat monotone, utlizing
lots of tans, browns, and blacks. While it in many ways does echo the
atmosphere of the album, I wanted to explore something more abstract
and colorful for a theoretical accompanying merchandise piece. The
image I produced was a colorful rose, splattered in hues of blue, red,
and pink, signifying the passion and heart which follows every note.
The typography echoes this was well, as I layered it in a deep pink
dotted with blue, creating striking contrast on a black background.
