BACKGROUND
Linkin Park is an American hard rock band from California formed in the late 1990s. Gaining mainstream success in the 2000s, Linkin Park established themselves a worldwide staple for intense rock music which they’ve retained to this day. Commemorating the 20 year anniversary for their 2003 album Meteora, Linkin Park decided to re-release the album, adding compilations of live shows and also including previously unreleased music.
DESIGN STRATEGY
Noting the similarities and differences between the 2003 album cover and the 2023 re-release, I decided to toe the line between these two and take inspiration from both. Using color palettes (blue and brown) from both covers, I highlighted the band members with a spray-paint frame on a gritty concrete and brick background which echoes the musical energy. It contrasts well with a simple but to-the-point sans serif font (Eurostile) which highlights the poster purpose and the album contents. I also decided it very important to highlight former lead vocalist Chester Bennington on the bottom left, arguably the most recognizable member of the group. While he tragically took his own life in 2017, he is remembered fondly in the music world as his fierce vocal work and profound lyrics played a key part in propelling the band into stardom.
