BACKGROUND
Galleries are a melodic hardcore band from the United Kingdom formed in the 2010s. One of their singles, Enough, made quite the impression on me and I decided to re-do the cover artwork for it. The original cover artwork features the band name and song title (all caps sans serif and script type), along with a group of roses on a black background.
DESIGN STRATEGY
Considering it’s single artwork, I have more room to focus on the song and the emotions it emulates. It’s definitely a quintessential melodic hardcore soundtrack, featuring screamed verses and fiery drumming, paired with melodic guitar riffs and more gentle, singing choruses. The song’s lyrics talk about a lover frustrated with their partner’s lack of love not for them but their own self. I thought it appropriate to re-do the image as a person crying, devoid of color save for a soft blue. I re-did the typography as a script, placed strategically off-center and at the edge of a falling tear, naturally drawing the eye creating a dynamic focal point. For the song’s passion and lyrical content, I thought it more than appropriate to not just emulate emotion with design but to literally show it.
